On Tuesday evening at the Emirates Stadium, Arsenal booked their place in the Champions League group stages with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Turkish side Fenerbahce.
A well-taken brace from Aaron Ramsey was enough for the Gunners to dispatch their opponents at home as they ran out 5-0 aggregate victors. Although the first goal had a rather scrappy finish from the young Welsh international, the build-up play was lovely to watch as Arsene Wenger’s men sprayed the ball around with an air of confidence.
The second goal, however, was taken with even more skill as Ramsey connected well with a Kieran Gibbs cross to guide the ball with his left-foot in to the back of the net.
Of course, the Turkish side had a few chances of their own, most notably when they had a flurry of chances denied by a combination of the post, crossbar and the wonderful reflexes of Wojciech Szczesny.
On that occasion, Emmanuel Emenike’s thunderous effort which careered off the left-post, highlighted how threatening they could be, however unfortunately for them, they rarely had a chance to show their potential as the North London side dictated the tempo of the game for much of the evening.
The result means that Arsenal’s mini-crisis is behind them for now.
However, if one thing became clear following the performance it was that Arsenal’s strikers need to start scoring as well. The likes of Lukas Podolski, Ramsey and Jack Wilshere cannot be relied on at all times.
Nonetheless, Wenger will be happy with the result.
And so, it’s time for SportsNewsIreland to take a look back at some of the more memorable tweets of the night as twitter responded to the result:
