Robbie Keane scored twice last night as his LA Galaxy side overturned a first leg deficit to beat San Jose Earthquakes in MLS Western Conference semi finals.

Keane’s crucial goals came in the first half and set the Galaxy on their way to the final. His first strike came early in the half and was a well-struck long range effort that found it’s way to the net off the post.

The Republic of Ireland captain looked sharp and hungry throughout and his second goal came courtesy of a lightning quick counter attack. Landon Donovan fed the Tallaght man the ball and Ireland’s record goal scorer rounded the keeper for an easy finish. The Los Angeles side went on to win the game 3-1 and will face either the Seattle Sounders or Real Salt Lake in Sunday’s final.

Keane may have been mistaken for an unidentified fan when photographs of him with David Beckham and Russell Brand were published in the American media recently but his brace last night means that there will be no more cases of mistaken identity for Ireland’s captain.

Giovanni Trapattoni left Keane out of his squad for next Wednesday night’s friendly against Greece in the Aviva Stadium.
