Luka Modric could be on his way to Old Trafford in the summer, with Alex Ferguson set to renew his interest in the diminutive Croatian.
Modric has been a long-term target of Alex Ferguson’s, but moved to Real Madrid for £33 million last summer. With a number of departures expected at Old Trafford, Modric has been targeted as a potential replacement for Paul Scholes.
Uncertainty remains regarding the futures of Luis Nani, Anderson and Federico Macheda, while next season is believed to be Ryan Giggs’ last.
Fergie chased Modric’s signature when the Croatian was playing with Tottenham Hotspur, but ultimately could not come to an agreement with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy.
Modric, 27, has had a stop-start career in Madrid thus far, but contributed to United’s exit from the Champions League with a wonder goal at Old Trafford.
However, it is believed Modric eyes a return to the Premiership with the Manchester giants in the future. With a number of European clubs homing in on Wayne Rooney, Fergie should have a large transfer kitty at his disposal and has made Modric his number-one target.
Modric has played 37 games for Real Madrid, scoring twice and notching five assists.
