Furner’s Green showed the well being of the Ballydoyle string when he comfortably landed the Leopardstown 2,000 Guineas Trial Stakes on Sunday afternoon.
Sent off the 4/6 favourite the son of Dylan Thomas was always travelling well in the four runner contest.
Jockey Joseph O’Brien was happy to sit off a solid gallop set by his stablemate Vault and his market rival Akeed Wafi in the 1m contest.
Swinging into the straight it was Akeed Wafi that kicked for home first and he took a length out of the field. O’Brien had the move well covered and quickly sent his mount on and Furner’s Green quicken away to win by 3 lengths from Akeed Wafi and Vault.
Speaking after the race trainer Aidan O’Brien said “We are delighted with that. He travels and quickens well. We always thought of him as a Guineas and French Derby type. That would be the plan at the moment. Although which Guineas he goes for is undecided.”
Boylesports make Furner’s Green a 33/1 shot for both the English 2000 Guineas and Derby, while Ladbrokes go 33/1 from 66/1 for the 2000 Guineas
