Famous Name landed his tenth win at Leopardstown this afternoon and his third victory in a row in the Listed Heritage Stakes on Sunday afternoon.
The Dermot Weld horse, having his first start of the season, was sent off the 9/10 favourite in a field that included impressive Irish Lincoln winner Sharestan.
Settled at the rear of the field by jockey Pat Smullen, Famous Name travelled with his usual zest of the strong pace set by Dutchess Of Foxland and Seamie Heffernan.
Turning for home Famous Name swept up to the leaders and looked to have put the race to bed when he quicken three lengths clear of the field.
However he was pushed all the way to the line as Johnny Murtagh and Sharestan came with a dramatic late run to almost collar Famous Name.
The line came just in time for the favourite and he held on by a diminishing head at the line with Northgate running a tremendous race back in third at 33/1.
Speaking after the race Karl Weld, son of Dermot said. “We are very happy with that. Pat (Smullen) said he will improve tremendously for that.
“The first two are very good horses. We will follow a similar pattern to last year and try to land that elusive Group 1.”
