Homecoming Queen showed tremendous battling qualities to hold the late challenge of Fire Lily to give Aidan O’Brien a treble at Leopardstown on Sunday.
The daughter of Holy Roman Emperor took the nine strong field along at a steady gallop in the one mile contest with Fire Lily content to sit in mid division.
Colm O’Donoghue rode the prefect front running ride and kicked for home swinging round the final turn. It looked for a moment that Fire Lily would collar the long time leader, however Homecoming Queen looked to be dossing in front and when the favourite came to her hind quarters she picked up readily again and scored by three parts of a length from Fire Lily and Up who was back in third.
Aidan O’Brien admitted after the race that a lot of his string have been improving from their first run and this filly was no exception. “She is a tough, hardy filly. They all seem to be improving from their first run to their second. We will look at one of the Guineas for her now”
Boylesports now go 25/1 from 33/1 for the Guineas and she is introduced at 33/1 for the Epsom Oaks by the same firm.
