Manchester United seem to have already begun the re-strengthening of their midfield ready for next season. Benfica’s influential playmaker Nicolás Gaitan appears set to sign for the Red Devils next season.
Gaitan has made 23 Portuguese Superliga appearances this season bagging 3 goals and 7 assists. Gaitan has also managed 7 assists in the UEFA Champions League in just 10 appearances in this years competition. The 24 year old Argentine midfielder has been attracting a lot of interest with rumours circulating that Inter Milan, Manchester City and Paris St-Germain have all been keeping tabs on the highly rated youngster.
According to the Daily Telegraph a deal has already been struck. A deal reportedly worth £20 million plus Federico Macheda and Fabio Da Silva. Fabio’s move looks set to be a season long loan whereas Macheda’s move to Portugal looks destined to be a more permanent one.
Nicolás Gaitan has the midfield versatility that Sir Alex Ferguson often craves. Being able to play attacking midfield or left wing Gaitan has a lot to offer the current Manchester United side. Gaitan contributes pace, skill and impressive vision, which without Paul Scholes’ return this season that vision could have been severely lacking.
Despite the likes of Scholes and Giggs still churning out top level performances they are nearing the end of their exceptional careers and Gaitan looks like he could be the ideal candidate to take the midfield reins at Manchester United.
With many fans expecting some positive activity in the transfer market at the end of this season this looks to be a signing that will have the red side of Manchester rubbing their hands in anticipation.
