Wigan gun down Arsenal at Emirates

Wigan moved five points clear of the relegation zone with a wonderful performance to beat Arsenal 2-1 at the Emirates.

Less than a week after they shocked league leaders Manchester United Roberto Martinez continued their late season giant killing antics as goals from Franco di Santo and Jordi Gomez sent the 200 strong Wigan support home in raptures.

Di Santo opened the scoring on seven minutes when he beat the on rushing Wojciech Szczesny to get on the end of Gomez’s through ball to slot the ball home.

The lead was doubled just over a minute later when Szczesny failed to deal with Victor Moses cross to allow Gomez the simple task of guiding the ball into the empty net.

Thomas Vermaelen pulled one back for the Gunners on 21 minutes when he headed over Tomas Rosicky’s cross however that was as much as Arsenal could muster as Wigan held on for a priceless win.
