Cruyff dismisses links to vacant Liverpool role

Updated: April 17, 2012

Dutch footballing legend Johann Cruyff has removed himself from circulating rumours linking him with the vacant director of football position at Liverpool F.C.

“I don’t know where that [rumour] has come from because I have not heard anything from them [Liverpool]. There has been no contact whatsoever” retorted the three time European Cup winner writing in Dutch newspaper DE Telegraaf. Since parting ways with former director of football Damien Comolli last week Liverpool are looking to fill the vacancy and many media outlets have attached Cruyff’s name to the position. “If you just read speculation like this, without any substance to it, there is no point taking it seriously. It is just talk.” further coined the three time Ballon d’Or winner.

The role of director of football is to aid manager Kenny Dalglish in his execution of the clubs transfer plan.

Comolli was assigned the role in 2011. He along with Liverpool manager Dalglish where responsible for bringing many recent high profile signings to the club, among those Luis Suarez and club record signing Andy Carroll.

Johann Cruyff is currently occupying an advisory role to Mexico’s most decorated team, Club Deportivo Guadalajara or ‘Chivas’ as they are better known since joining them in February 2012.
