Bayern Munich v Real Madrid a ready made classic

Updated: April 17, 2012

As the most exciting football competition in Europe nears its spectacular conclusion we are lucky enough to still have the semi finals to sit through.

Bayern Munich the footballing juggernauts from Germany are set to take on Real Madrid the nine-time winners of the competition. The German side currently boast an unbeaten record at home in this years competition and will be looking to keep it that way when José Mourinho’s men come to town.

Bayern Munich’s main threat will surely come in the shape of Mario Gomez having notched up twelve goals in this years competition so far, leaving him second only to Lionel Messi in the goal scoring ranks. Gomez is also currently topping the Bundesliga scoring charts with twenty-five goals. Bayern captain Phillip Lahm looks set to return to the side after being rested at the weekend and claims that he and his team are fully focussed in the build up to tonight’s game.

Real Madrid are currently flying high in La Liga and the Champions League and are scoring for fun in both competitions. Cristiano Ronaldo is the obvious threat having claimed an impressive forty-one goals in La Liga. However Madrid have goals everywhere in the team, Karim Benzema and Gonzalo Higuain have contributed a further thirty-nine goals between them.

The attacking midfield trio of Ronaldo, Ángel Di Maria and Mesut Ozil appears to be where the most convertable service will be coming from having set up forty of Real Madrid’s goals in La Liga this season.

In my opinion this is one of those games you wouldn’t want to bet your house on. Madrid appear to have the more potent attacking threat but home advantage and great home form keep Munich in the hunt.

If both teams perform as we know they can the only thing that is certain is that this will be a great match up.
