Great news today for one of Ireland’s most courageous sports stars, gymnast Kieran Behan with the announcement of a new sponsorship deal.
With 100 days to go to the start of London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, BT Ireland has today announced that Irish gymnast, Kieran Behan, has been brought on board as a BT ambassador.
Despite being only the second Irish gymnast in history to qualify for an Olympic Games this is the main commercial sponsorship deal Kieran has secured to date providing financial support to aid his preparation for London 2012.
His feat of Olympic qualification is all the more remarkable as the 22 year old has suffered an extraordinary series of injuries and was twice told he would never walk again.
Colm O’Neill, CEO BT Ireland said:
“We are all very excited and proud to announce our sponsorship and support for Kieran, in the lead up to, and during, the Games. His story is truly inspirational and a fantastic example of personal resilience.
High performance is at the core of our business, and the dedication displayed by world class athletes, like Kieran, can really motivate us all to give our best in everything we do.”
Commenting on the partnership Kieran said:
“To think years and years ago I was told: ‘You’re never going to be able to walk again let alone do gymnastics’, to find out I’m going to the Olympic Games is something that dreams are made of. I’m absolutely delighted to receive this support from BT and will be putting it to very good use with my training and preparation in the coming weeks.”
SportsNewsIRELAND’s coverage of Kieran Behan’s bid for Olympics qualification goes back well into last year and we have been delighted to keep you informed of his progress ever since including that nail-biting but memorable night at the North Greenwich Arena (O2) when he qualified against all the odds for the Olympics.
Kieran has got there by his own perseverance and will to win and in no small measure due to the fantastic support of his family notably his proud parents Phil and Bernie and his coaches at Tolworth Gymnastics , Demetrios Bradshaw and Simon Gale and of course with the backing of Gymnastics Ireland, especially Sally Filmer, and of the Irish Sports Council and Olympic Council of Ireland but this latest sponsorship will help further his career and not just at the Olympics but in the European and World events in future years. We have not heard the last of the 5ft 3ins, 22 years old, ‘angelic face ‘of Kieran Behan as he confounds medical and gymnastic experts alike in the years ahead.
