Wales Manger Warren Gatland has had a freak accident which sees Rob Howley taking a caretakers role for Wales’s three test summer tour of Australia.
Gatland has apparently fallen off a ladder in his New Zealand home that has left him with multiple fractures in his right and left foot. He will not be able to take charge of his side for of their matches during summer tour down under so Rob Howley has been appointed caretaker manager for the tour games by the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU).
The WRU have stated that “Rob Howley will have full control of all aspects of team preparation and selection as he takes charge of the existing management and coaching staff with immediate effect.” Gatland has expressed his approval and backing of this decision. He is still waiting to undergo surgery as the damage done to his right foot in particular is quite serious. He has been advised not to bear any weight on his foot until early June. This is a huge blow to Gatland as he must have been relishing the thought of challenging his southern hemisphere natives.
