Infanta Branca takes Curragh opener

Updated: April 22, 2012

It looked like a one horse race on paper and so it proved as Infanta Branca took the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Maiden for trainer Aidan O’Brien.

Sent of the 1/3 favourite the Joseph O’Brien filly never saw another horse as she pinged the gates and led her six rivals a merry dance in the five furlong contest.

The Jim Bolger trained Leitir Mor briefly looked like putting the O’Brien filly under pressure in the final furlong but Infanta Branca was always in command and won by a length from the Bolger colt with Dorothy Parker back in third.

Speaking in the winners enclosure O’Brien said of his filly. “She is very fast. She looks a real Queen Mary type of filly. It’s great to get the first winner for Henrythenavigator as well. She is exciting and she could come back here for the Marble Hill next”
