Kilkenny hurling has received a major boost ahead of the Championship season with the news that Richie Power has not suffered cruciate ligament damage to his knee.
The 26-year-old forward suffered a heavy fall on Saturday in a club match against James Stephens and was stretchered from the field.
It was originally feared Power would miss the rest of the season, but a scan alleviated those fears on Monday.
The scan confirmed Power suffered cartilage damage, which will sideline the five-time All-Ireland winner for at least six weeks.
The forward will miss the NHL final against Cork on Sunday but should return before the start of Kilkenny’s Championship campaign.
