New England boss Roy Hodgson has revealed Harry Redknapp has been in contact to wish him well.
On Tuesday Hodgson was formally unveiled as the successor to Fabio Capello by the English Football Association at their Wembley headquarters. The new England manager has signed a four year deal which will see him take charge of the national team up until European Championships in 2016.
The appointment came as a surprise to many, as players and media alike had touted Tottenham Hotspur manager Redknapp as favourite to land the vacant job.
As the former West Bromwich Albion manager held his first press conference as manager of the national side made it known that he had already been in touch with the Spurs boss
“I’ve got great respect for Harry, he’s sent me a voicemail message, which I’ll reply to, and has been very gracious” said 64-year-old.
“We’re great friends who have unwittingly become rivals, but we’ll be friends again” he continued to gathered journalists.
