Real win Spanish title

Updated: May 3, 2012

Real Madrid have won their 32nd La Liga title with a comfortable 0-3 win at Atletico Bilbao.

Ronaldo took an impudent (many would say disrespectful) penalty kick, which goalkeeper Iraizoz had dived the wrong for but still had time to recover and save with 12 minutes on the clock.

Higuain saved the Portuguese blushed however by smashing the ball home on 15 minutes.

All was forgiven for Ronaldo as he beautifully created the second of the night for Mezut Ozil on 20 minutes.

Ronaldo ensured the champagne corks could be unscrewed five minutes into the second half with the third goal on the night from a simple header and Madrid knew they were champions despite Barcelona’s 4-1 win over Malaga.  Madrid were seven points clear with just two games to play.

The win means that Jose Mourinho has now won league titles in four different countries having repeated the feats he managed with Porto, Chelsea and Inter Milan.

Atletico, who perhaps had their minds on other things with Europa League and Copa Del Rey finals coming up, finished with 10 men following Javi Martinez’s harsh sending off for two handballs.
