Belgian defender Jan Vertonghen has been linked with a summer move away from Dutch giants Ajax for many months now and with the end of the season in sight speculation is heating up right about now.
According to GOAL.com Ajax are reportedly looking for a ‘significant fee’ for the player’s services. With both Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur appearing most interested in the twenty-five year old Belgium international it could come down to who is willing to pay the most.
However, Vertonghen has stated that Tottenham would be his preferred choice but if Tottenham are not willing to pay what could spiral into an excessive transfer fee another club may step up and take the highy rated defender.
If Ajax do decide to price Vertonghen out of the market then he may look to leave under the Bosman ruling when his contract ends in 2013, where not only would Ajax miss out on any proposed fees but Vertonghen would have his pick of the clubs.
