Arsenal to join race for Dempsey

Updated: May 8, 2012

As the end of Clint Dempsey’s most prolific season draws to an end after this weekend the list of clubs currently keeping tabs on the twenty-nine year old American seems to be a mile long.

Arsenal have now declared an interest in the Fulham talismanic midfielder with Arsene Wenger seeing Dempsey as the ideal man to sit behind his new strike pairing of Lukas Podolski and Robin Van Persie. Other clubs said to be interested are Liverpool and Everton while rumours also circulate linking him with a move to Manchester United.

With Arsene Wenger looking to splash the cash this summer and the possibility of a starting role for a team in the champions league, Dempsey could well be persuaded for the move across London to the Emirates Stadium.

Clint Dempsey has been in incredible form this season scoring twenty-three goals in forty-one appearances in all competitions and is the fourth highest goal scorer in the premiership this season with seventeen, the only players in front of him are Van Persie, Wayne Rooney and Sergio Aguero. Not bad for a midfielder at a club placed eighth in the league.
