Connacht lock forward has been cited

Updated: May 8, 2012

Connacht’s Mike McCarthy has been cited for making contact with the eye area of a Glasgow Warriors player during the Scottish side’s 24-3 win on Saturday.

Glasgow’s victory booked their place in the playoff stages of the RaboDirect Pro 12 competition and they will face Leinster at the RDS on 12th May (kick off 7:35pm).

McCarthy has previously been cited this season following a dangerous tackle on Toulouse’s Vincent Clerc during their Heineken Cup clash at the Showgrounds in November.

The date and venue of the hearing, before an independent PRO12 Disciplinary Committee, has yet to be confirmed, though Connacht’s season is effectively finished at this stage.

McCarthy has been a late developer and made his Ireland debut shortly before his 30th birthday during a World Cup warm-up against Scotland last August at Murrayfield.  He has currently won four caps for his country and would be an outside hope for the tour of New Zealand next month.
