SPLAINE NAMES TEAM FOR FRIDAY’S FRENCH NATIONS’ CUP
CORK’s Shane Sweetnam will lead out the Irish team at the French Superleague Nations’ Cup at La Baule tomorrow (Friday), where Ireland has this evening been drawn second to jump of the world’s top eight teams.
Robert Splaine, Team Ireland Equestrian’s show jumping manager, has selected his team to compete in the following order:
Shane Sweetnam/Amaretto Darco
Cian O’Connor/Blue Loyd
Ireland won at La Baule in 2011 after being drawn sixth to jump, with Sweetnam and Amaretto Darco also opening the scoring for Ireland.
The French western seaside venue is the first of the top eight venues where the 2012 Nations’ Cup Superleague will be decided, and the remaining seven competitions will take place at Rome (ITA), St Gallen (SUI), Rotterdam (NED), Falsterbo (SWE), Aachen (GER), Hickstead (GBR) and Dublin (IRL), where the series concludes on August 17 with the Aga Khan Trophy competition.
The La Baule Nations’ Cup begins on Friday shortly after 1pm Irish time.
