Allianz National Hurling League Update

The 2011 Allianz Leagues are certainly proving very successful for Dublin hurlers and footballers, both of whom remain unbeaten as they sit proudly on top of Division 1 in either code.

The footballers are bidding to reach the Division 1 final for the first time since 1999 while the hurlers are attempting to qualify for the big day for the first time since 1946 when they lost to Clare in a replay.

Anthony Daly’s squad have beaten Tipperary, Offaly and Wexford and drawn with Waterford to top the group on seven points, one clear of Galway (whom they meet on Sunday week) and Kilkenny.

Galway’s dramatic win over Kilkenny last Sunday has thrown the race for a place in the final wide open as the pair are both on six points with Waterford a point further back while Tipperary moved on to four points after beating Offaly. Cork are also on four points with Wexford and Offaly both marooned at the bottom of the table with no points from four games. It makes their clash in Tullamore next Sunday week crucial in the battle against relegation.

Limerick and Clare were fancied to reach the Division 2 final and are on course to achieve that. Limerick have full points (8) from four games while Clare have six points from four games. Laois, Carlow and Antrim are tucked in behind them on four points.

Wicklow, who have won their first four games, are guaranteed a place in the Division 3A final with one round to go. Derry, London and Kildare in contention for the second final place.

Louth and Mayo are setting the pace in Division 3B while Tyrone, South Down and Fermanagh lead the way in Division 3.
The next round of games in all Divisions will be played on the weekend after next.
