Kildare v Kerry, Christy Ring Cup Preview

Updated: May 12, 2012

Live score updates from Kildare v Kerry in the Christy Ring Cup, Second Round, Newbridge, Saturday 12th May, 2.30pm

Time is beginning to run out for the Kerry hurlers as they look to successfully defend the Christy Ring Cup, with a tricky trip to Newbridge up for negotiation this Saturday.

After suffering a deserved reverse to Wicklow last weekend, the Kingdom’s hurlers know that they must dramatically improve their performance against Kildare this weekend if they are to have any chance of progressing.

Manager John Meyler will be looking to his lethal forward trio of Shane Nolan, Padraig Boyle and Shane Brick to fire his side back into contention and will be hoping that Liam Boyle can lead just as resolutely from the back.
Kildare had their fair share of bad luck in the first round of matches against Derry but will be looking to bounce back this weekend with a better performance and the all-important win. The form that led them to the Division 2B crown in this year’s National Football League has not deserted them but will be mindful that Kerry are coming into this match wounded and looking to kickstart their own campaign.

The Lilywhites have no new injury concerns but manager Willie Sunderland has made changes to the forward line.

Jonny Enright and David Harney have been drafted in with Tony Murphy reverting to full forward. Mark Moloney has been switched to a midfield starting role.

“Hopefully we will get a collective performance this weekend,” said Sunderland.

“All the players have performed at some stage but not as a team and the disappointing thing about last Saturday was that I felt some of the players did not play at what you would call a championship level. Hopefully that will be changed on Saturday [against Kerry].”
