Scholes to continue playing for another year

Updated: May 17, 2012

Paul Scholes has signed another one year extension at Manchester United it has been confirmed by Sir Alex Ferguson.

Scholes announced his retirement from professional soccer at the end of the 2010-2011 Premier League season. However, after admitting to Ferguson that he was missing the game the United Boss re-signed the player in this year’s January transfer window.

Since his return to Old Trafford United’s performance had unquestionably improved and it seemed the break from football was just what Scholes needed as his performances were truly inspirational. Sir Alex does believe that this will be the 37 year olds last season in a United shirt.

“I am delighted,” said Ferguson. “He knew he had made a mistake. He now realises if he plays 25 or 30 games next season, they will be of real quality.

“I think this will be Paul’s last season. We know him very well. We have had him since he was a kid. We know how to use him.”

However the United Boss has strongly recommended that the player does not consider joining Roy Hodgson’s Euro 2012 squad which has been suggested by some.
