Cork City host UCD at Turners Cross on Friday night (kick off 7:45pm) and they will be hoping for an upturn in fortunes against a side which has long been the Rebels’ bogey team.
City have been in good form of late and they start their second round of matches, confident of teaching the students a lesson after the Dublin side beat them 1-0 on the opening day of the season.
Cork boss Tommy Dunne is aware of the challenge that a young, fit college side bring. Speaking to corkcityfc.net he stated: “We will be a better proposition in this game than we were in the first game, but I have no doubt that UCD will be better as well.
We have to make sure that we are diligent in our performance. Over the past couple of weeks we have shown that we are a team capable of going out and scrapping for results when we need to, and we have been competitive which is pleasing.”
Jamie Murphy and Shane O’Connor will sit out the tie with ankle and foot injuries respectively while Stephen Mulcahy, Neal Horgan and Kevin Murray are all struggling with knocks to the knee.
Both sides will name their starting line-ups shortly before kick off.
