Caviar connections to sidestep Frankel clash

Updated: May 28, 2012

The prospect of the two best horses in the world, Black Caviar and Frankel, meeting this season appears to be dead in the water after the connections of Black Caviar failed to declare their mare for the Qipco Sussex Stakes at Goodwood.

It had been hoped that the two horses would meet in the 1m Group 1 at the end of July however Jeff O’Connor, representing trainer Peter Moody, said to the Racing Post: “Moody Racing does not intend running Black Caviar at a mile in the Sussex Stakes.

“Frankel or no Frankel, as we are looking at getting her back to Melbourne for racing later in the year if she comes through Ascot as well as she can.

“Therefore, we are not planning to nominate her for the Sussex Stakes at Tuesday’s nomination stage as we feel it would not be the right thing by the racing industry worldwide, giving false hope that the race may happen.”
