One of Donegal’s leading hurling delegates, Danny Cullen Snr, has been hit with a 48-week ban for allegedly bringing the game into disrepute.

Cullen, who is secretary of the Setanta hurling club, was issued with the unpredented suspension by the Donegal Competitions Control Committee for an incident which allegedly took place during a sitting of last month’s county board meeting.

Media in the county have reported that Setanta’s affiliation for 2012 has not been accepted after the club failed to come up with a suitable proposal to pay off unpaid levies owned to the county board.

Both Cullen and the club are expected to appeal the sanctions to the Donegal Hearings’ Committee.
