Shay Given believes that Ireland have the potential to cause Spain problems when they come up against the current World and European champions in Gdansk on Thursday.

“We can hurt them. We won’t be trying to get everybody behind the ball, we’ll try and cause them some problems as well,” Given told the Irish Daily Star.
“One of the biggest things will probably be set-pieces. They’re maybe not the biggest team in the competition and we’ve got some big players in our team.
So if we get some of the right deliveries in there, as we saw against Croatia with the goal we scored, we’ve got the players who can get on to balls in the box.”
Given was unhappy with the manner in which Ireland conceded the three goals which led to their defeat at the hands of Croatia.
“It wasn’t like us at all and nor were the goals we conceded. Two were from corners and the other one was from a cross and that’s not normally like us, we’re usually more solid than that,” he said.
He also believes that the players now have to focus on the game against Spain instead of dwelling on Ireland’s loss against Croatia.
“We can change what happens against Spain and that’s the important thing. We’ve got to look forward. Croatia has gone,” said Given.
