Maguire is one of the County’s most consistent performers this season and started at corner forward in the defeat to Dublin while McDonnell was introduced during the second half.

Both players have decided to spend the summer in the US after failing to secure employment in Ireland but are expected to return in order to continue their studies in September.

Louth Manager Peter Fitzpatrick has already lost several key players such as Brian White and Brian Donnelly to the US and the loss of McDonnell and Maguire will come as a further blow to the County ahead of the first round of Qualifiers on June 30.

The news gives Fitzpatrick a real headache after the County lost by 16 points to Dublin in the quarter final of the Leinster GAA Football Championship on June 30.

The draw for Round 1 of the Qualifiers will take place live on Radio One’s Morning Ireland programme next Monday morning, June 18 at 8.30am.
