Speaking in today’s Irish Sun he said, “We know what to expect from Offaly. It’s going to be a very tough game.”

Callaghan is all too aware of Kildare’s unfortunate knack of falling at the first hurdle and wants his team to keep their focus on the upcoming fixture.

“Over the last few years, Louth and Wicklow have beaten us – we seem to be grand once we get over the first game. So we just have to make sure we are 100% focussed on winning this game. That’s what we’ve been doing.”

Offaly come into the game with a fresh team and manager who will want to take the game to the Lillywhites.

“We have to be playing very well to beat Offaly. We know that. Offaly have a new manager in place, new players, new system in place, so we are going to have to be at our best to beat them and we are expecting a huge game,” Callaghan added.

“We played them numerous times over the last couple of years. We are well aware of what they are capable of and they are a very dangerous team when they get going.”

Kildare take on Offaly on Sunday 17 June in the Leinster SFC at 4pm in Portloise.
