Westmeath v Wexford: Live score commentary

Updated: June 23, 2012

We have live score commentary from Wexford v Westmeath in the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Qualifier, 7:30pm Saturday 23rd June, Wexford Park, 7.30pm

Westmeath have shown tremendous heart seeing off Antrim and putting in an impressive performance against Galway so they will be disappointed to have drawn Wexford in the qualifiers when teams like Antrim and Carlow received byes.

But those are the breaks and Westmeath now have to get themselves ready for a difficult assignment.

The last time they played Wexford in the championship, they lost by 31 points, albeit in 1995. Brian Hanley’s have improved leaps and bounds and gave Galway a real match last time out.

Both sides have named unchanged line-ups from last time out.

Wexford are a division above the Lake County in the Allianz National League and with such raw talents as Jack Guiney emerging on the senior panel, things are looking promising.

Wexford are not the best side by a long way but they should have too much class for Westmeath. Expect Hanley’s men to put up a spirited effort but it should be a straight-forward victory for the home side and should go on to face Carlow in the next round.
