The Lillywhites were very impressive against Offaly in the last round but Mcgeeney wants more from his troops this time round and, although he praised Rob Kelly and Eoin Doyle for their performances in that game, he was adamant both players had a lot more to do to hold onto their places.

“The two players played very well. Rob has a lot to offer the team but he knows he’s going to be up against it with Daryl (Flynn) pushing hard again after his injury.

“Dermot (Earley) is coming back and Chalky is pushing hard for midfield as well. That is what you are looking at for competition for places and it could be a different set of players the next day.”

Kildare team in full:

1. Shane Connolly; 2. Hugh McGrillen, 3. Michael Foley,
4. Peter Kelly, 5. Eoin Doyle, 6. Morgan O’Flaherty, 7. Ollie Lyons;
8. Emmet Bolton, 9. Robert Kelly; 10. James Kavanagh, 11. Mikey Conway,
12. Padraig O’Neill, 13. John Doyle, 14. Tomás O’Connor, 15. Eoghan O’Flaherty.
