Mayo goalkeeper Robert Hennelly has been forced to withdraw from the county’s senior football panel for the remainder of the championship season due to work commitments in Dublin.
Hennelly, who established himself as the number one last season before losing his position to David Clarke during this year’s National Football League, has recently taken up employment as a Media and Communications Officer with drinkaware.ie and informed Mayo manager James Horan of his decision to leave the panel at the weekend.
“It was a very tough decision to take but this is the most dedicated panel I’ve ever seen, anywhere, and if I feel I can’t give 100 per cent like everyone else on the panel, I don’t think it is right or fair to wait, “ explained Hennelly.
Paul Mannion is expected to take Hennelly’s place in the panel.
Meanwhile the O’Shea Brothers, Seamus and Aiden, returned to club action at the weekend and both should be available for selection for Mayo’s Connacht Final showdown against Sligo on Sunday July 15th. Seamus has been struggling with a groin injury and Aiden has been plagued by a stomach muscle problem since Easter.
