Jordi Alba will move to the Nou Camp next season after Barcelona secured an £11.2 million move for the Spanish international.
The 23 year old attacking left back will sign a 5 year contract after the final of Euro 2012 moving from Valencia back to the club where it all began for him. Alba is a Barcelona native and was brought through the La Masia Academy where he played between 1998 and 2005 before joining Valencia in 2007.
Valencia initially played Alba as a left winger but he has impressed recently after converting to an attacking left back similar in style to Dani Alves, the current Barcelona right back. In his last three seasons at Valencia he has scored five goals in 74 appearances.
He is Barcelona’s first signing in the off season and will fill the void in defence left by Eric Abidal who is recovering from a liver transplant.
Barcelona have released a statement on the club website, “Barcelona announce that today they reached an agreement with Valencia for the transfer of Jordi Alba, who will undergo his medical next week. The cost of the operation will be €14m and the player will sign a contract for the next five seasons.”
Alba is the fourth high profile Valencia player to leave the club in the last three years and the second to travel across to the Catalan giants after David Villa’s move two years ago. David Silva (Manchester City) and Juan Mata (Chelsea) both moved to the Premier League from Valencia in recent years.
