Football: Hughton makes major Norwich inroads

Updated: July 4, 2012

Chris Hughton has wasted little time in making his mark at Norwich City following his arrival from Championship side Birmingham last month.

The former Republic Of Ireland assistant manager has pulled off a major coup in persuading club captain and West Ham and Aston Villa target Grant Holt to sign a new three deal at Carrow Road.

The 31 year old skipper who netted 15 goals last season was believed to be closing in on a £7 million move to Villa Park but yesterday signed a new deal at Norwich which doubles his wage to £24,000 per week.

“I never wanted to leave. My only ambition was to get a three year contract so now I am very happy.”

“My wife and children are all settled here so I was delighted to finally get it all sorted. Hopefully now I will finish my career here,” said Holt.

Meanwhile Hughton has further strengthened his squad with the signings of Rangers defender Steven Whittaker and highly rated Barnsley midfielder Jacob Butterfield as his Norwich revoluation takes shape.
