Roger Federer has emulated his hero Pete Sampras by claiming his seventh Wimbledon title with a three sets to one win over crowd favourite Andy Murray.

The 30 year olds 4-6, 7-5, 6-3, 6-4 win meant a first Grand Slam title since the Australian open in 2010 and takes his back to the World Number one spot.

Federer now 17 Grand Slam titles while Murray, who was bidding to become the first Briton since Fred Perry in 1936, must win for his first title after a third grand slam final loss.
