Sky Sports have announced the first 42 live Barclays Premier League fixtures to be shown from August to November 2012 with every club featured by 6 October. The new season of live football will feature Champions Manchester City, runners-up Manchester United and UEFA Champions League winners Chelsea in the first weekend.
Ford Super Sunday will return with a double header as Chelsea travel to the DW Stadium to take on Wigan Athletic and Manchester City clash with newly promoted Southampton at Eastlands. In the first Ford Monday Night football fixture, Manchester United travel to Goodison Park to face Everton, the club that derailed their title ambitions last season in a dramatic 4-4 draw at Old Trafford.
Every club in the Premiership will be featured twice before the end of November whilst newly promoted clubs will have three games televised in the same period. There will be 17 clashes between last season’s top eight clubs including a North West derby as Manchester City travel to Anfield to take on Brendan Rodgers’ Liverpool on 26 August and a London derby as Arsenal take on Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium on 29 September.
Sky Sports will televise five major derbies covering the Midlands, north London, Merseyside and Tyne-Wear which include a North West derby as Liverpool and Manchester United meet on 23 September at Anfield.
Commenting on the live matches, Barney Francis, Managing Director of Sky Sports, said, “We’re all looking forward to the start of the Premier League and we begin with a bang; Champions League winners Chelsea, Premier League Champions Manchester City and Manchester United all in our opening weekend.
“These selections provide our viewers with huge head to heads, major derbies and every team at least twice, all in the first three months of the season. We have the biggest names providing the most insightful analysis and commentary plus a wealth of unrivalled support programming. I’m sure it’ll be another fascinating football season on Sky Sports.”
