Galway jerseys fly off the shelves

Updated: July 13, 2012

Maroon and white are the hottest colours in Irish fashion this summer. Galway jerseys are flying off the shelves this week as proud supporters keen to wear the county colours snap up the replica shirts

The Tribesmen took the Bob O’Keefe cup back across the Shannon for the first time ever after their thrilling demolition of Kilkenny in last Sunday’s Leinster hurling final. Their surprising victory has had a huge effect on fashion conscious supporters with jersey sales going through the roof this week.

According to manufacturers O’Neills, this last week has seen a 100% increase in sales of the famous colours. Galway launched a new look jersey for the league campaign and fans are now flocking to sports shops in the West to get their hands on the unexpected fashion hit.

O’Neills are expecting the already brisk trade to increase as the All-Ireland semi final draws near and if Galway secure a place in the All-Ireland final, trade in maroon and white jerseys is expected to soar.
