Dundalk FC can confirm the signings of left-back Philip McCabe and striker William Woods, on amateur terms.
With the financial situation at the club, caretaker manager Darius Kierans has been forced to let players go this week, with both goalkeeper Ger Hanley and left-sided player Dan Cunningham – who had both turned professional when signing earlier this year – departing by mutual consent.
Kierans has now moved to add to a squad already depleted by injury by making the club’s first signings of the transfer window.
Eighteen-year-old McCabe, who arrives from Bohemians, and 21-year-old Woods, who was previously at Drogheda United, are both expected to be involved in the matchday squad for this evening’s game against Derry City at Oriel Park.
McCabe, incidentally, made his league debut for Bohs against Derry at Dalymount Park back in May, while he was also on the bench for the Gypsies on their trip to Cork City a fortnight ago.
“Philip and William are two young, hungry players, and it’s good to have them at the club,” Kierans said.
“Unfortunately, the budget has to be cut and we’ve already started doing that, because the most important thing is the survival of the club.
“We have signed both players on amateur terms and they will be valuable to us between now and the end of the season.”
