Lyon have emerged as rivals to Liverpool and Arsenal for the signature of Paris St Germain defender Mamadou Sakho.
The Premiership duo have long been admirers of the 22 year old who has emerged as one of Europe’s brightest talents since making his debut in 2007.
The French International is believed to be reviewing his future in the French capital however following the big outlay on Brazilian defender Thiago Silva from AC Milan.
With Brendan Rodgers and his Arsenal counterpart Arsene Wenger believed to be in the market for a centre back a move could materialise they would have to fight off the interest of Lyon if they are to land the defender.
Lyon have now made the first move for the player with Bernard Lacombe, special advisor to Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas, going public to reveal the club’s interest reportedly telling French newspaper L’Equipe “It’s true we need at least a central defender, and maybe a defensive midfielder,” Lacombe is quoted as saying in French newspaper L’Equipe.
“This is why we are always interested in Mamadou Sakho.”
