Imperial Monarch, winner of the Grand Prix de Paris on his last start, is to be aimed at the Red Mills Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown on September 8th according to his trainer Aidan O’Brien.
The son of Galileo has been off the track since his success in Paris and his trainer, speaking to attherace, confirmed that the 1m 2f Group 1 will be his next target.
He had a little break after France, he’s just back going again,” O’Brien said on At The Races.
“He’s been left in the Voltigeur and the Juddmonte and it’s very possible he might turn up in the Irish Champion Stakes or something like that.
“Joseph (O’Brien) felt he didn’t like being in front the last day as he was a bit babyish but he was brave.
“That was his first run over a mile and a half, he got it well.
“He’s a lovely horse, progressive and we’re really happy with him.
“Stamina usually comes out when they have class, and he has class, they are versatile and he’s a horse to look forward to.”
