Approach on target for Phoenix Stakes

Updated: August 7, 2012

The Coventry Stakes winner Dawn Approach is on course for his first tilt at Group 1 company this weekend in the Keenland Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh on Sunday afternoon.

A son of first season sire sensation New Approach, Dawn Approach maintained his unbeaten record with a smooth success at Royal Ascot and will look to follow in the hoofprints of the likes of George Washington, Holy Roman Emperor and Mastercraftsman in taking the 6f contest.

His participation on Sunday is likely to be dependent on the ground conditions with his trainer Jim Bolger saying that he would not run the colt if conditions were not suitable.

Aidan O’Brien, who has won the race an incredible eleven times has Cristoforo Colombo, Leopardstown maiden winner Forester, Parliament Square and Alfonsa De Sousa among his entries, while Kevin Prendergast who won the race last year with La Colina has Roseraie, Starbright and the unraced Mooqtar
