Nathaniel set to miss Frankel clash at York

Updated: August 9, 2012

Another top class opponent to test Frankel in his first race over 1m 2f in the Juddmonte International at York looks to have fallen by the wayside with the news that Coral Eclipse winner Nathaniel is set to miss the race.

The John Gosden trained son of Galileo, who chased Frankel home in their maiden race two seasons ago, could join the French trained gelding Cirrus Des Aigles in missing the International.

While Nathaniel may miss out on York, the news could be welcomed for Leopardstown as Gosden, speaking to the Racing Post, indictated that Nathaniel could line up in the Red Mills Irish Champion Stakes at the Co. Dublin track on September 8th.

“Nathaniel is in very good order and he’s entered at York but at this stage all I can say is we haven’t ruled anything in and anything out.

“He’s also in the Irish Champion [Stakes], the Arc and the Champion Stakes later in the year and we’d like to run in two of them.”
