Norwich midfielder Wes Hoolahan will not replace the injured Darron Gibson for next Wednesday’s friendly against Serbia due to an achilles flare up.

The player was disappointed but due to an Achilles tendon flare up, he requires rest during this period.

Gibson has torn a muscle in his left thigh during pre-season training with Everton and will remain on Merseyside for treatment.

Hoolahan would have been a strong candidate to feature in the friendly as Trap has dispensed the old guard by leaving Robbie Keane, Richard Dunne, Damien Duff and Shay Given out of the squad for the friendly.

The young Norwich midfielder earned praise for his performances under Paul Lambert last season and was fancied to feature in Trapattoni’s plans for the future.

The full squad for the game is:
Westwood, Forde, Randolph, Wilson, O’Shea, St Ledger, O’Dea, Ward, Kelly, McShane, Whelan, McCarthy, Green, Coleman, McGeady, Keogh, McClean, Treacy, Doyle, Long, Cox, Walters.
