Johnny Murtagh hopes to be back riding at the end of this week after he suffered a nasty kick to the face at the Curragh on Sunday afternoon.
Murtagh was due to partner the Charles O’Brien trained Lotty Dod in the Keeneland Phoenix Stakes when the filly reared up and kicked Murtagh in the side of his face.
The incident ruled Murtagh out of the Group 1 and also the rest of his rides at the Co. Kildare track. It was feared that Murtagh may miss a few weeks due to the blow but his agent Eddie Byrne said “Johnny won’t be riding at Gowran Park on Wednesday or at Leopardstown on Thursday. He will see what the specialist says and, hopefully, he will be back in action at Dundalk on Sunday and for York next week.”
