Everton are believed to be leading the chase for Bohemians defender and Athy GAA midfielder Kevin Feely, with a number of other English clubs also keeping an eye on the Kildare man.
Kildare’s KFM radio station say that sources within Bohemians football club have confirmed Everton’s interest in the 19 year old.
Feely first caught the eye of the Toffees during last August’s pre-season friendly with Bohs where the youngster impressed in a 1-1 draw, while he is also a wanted man in his other sporting love – Gaelic football.
The Athy native turned down an offer from the Kildare senior panel earlier this year to stick with the struggling Airtricity league side.
He told the club’s website in June: “I thought there was plenty of time left, if the soccer didn’t work out, to go back to Gaelic football. It would have been a lot harder to do it the other way around.
“It was a big honour to be asked to join Kildare because they had a strong team. It was always a dream of mine to play in Croke Park in the Leinster championship.
“There was no way I could decide on the basis of which I preferred. It had to be some logical reasoning behind it because I love both of them.”
Feely has continued to line out for Athy since but with news that English soccer clubs are interested in his career, he may be putting Gaelic dreams behind him for the near future.
