Sunderland are reportedly closing in on a deal for Manchester City winger Adam Johnson.
Martin O’Neill’s side have reportedly held talks with City over an initial £10million deal for the England International.
Johnson has been linked with a move away from the Etihad this summer despite signing a new five year deal last January.
Liverpool, Spurs and Everton are also reportedly keen on the winger, who has struggled to win a regular first team place, but the Black Cats have made the first move for the former Middlesbrough star.
Johnson’s opportunities look set to be limited further with Roberto Mancini chasing Swansea winger Scott Sinclair and the Italian understands the player’s frustration: “Adam deserves to play because he is a good player, but it is not easy for me because I can only have 11 in my team. Every player who doesn’t play is frustrated. I can understand that.
“I will talk to him about what will happen now, but it is difficult to let him go because I need to have all my players at this moment.
“When we start the Champions League, we hope to be playing a game every three days for 10 months, so it is not easy to decide about Adam.”
