Italian side Aironi, won their very first game in the Magners League competition, with a shock 25-13 victory over Connacht on Saturday evening.

The home team had never tasted victory in their 17 games to date but were always on top in this contest and were fully deserving of the points. They took the lead inside ten minutes after winger Kaine Robertson crossed over to open the scoring and after this they always held the upper hand over their visitors.

Tito Tebaldi converted the early try before a penalty from Ian Keatley narrowed the gap soon after. Gareth Krause then went over for the Italian’s second try after 22 minutes. Tebaldi again added the extra points. However, a Connacht try courtesy of Ray Ofisa reduced the lead once again and after a successful conversion from Keatley, the score at halftime saw the hosts lead by just four points(14-10).

It was all Aironi after the break however, as Tebaldi added a penalty and James Marshall scored a fine drop goal. Danwell Demas added a try that killed off the Connacht challenge as the hosts ran out convincing winners. All the visitors could manage in the second period was a sole penalty from Keatley.
