Kilkenny beat Waterford by 2-16 to 1-13 in the Allianz National Hurling League in Nowlan Park on Sunday afternoon.
The home side are now in a great position to make the league final and have put a real dent in the Deise’s hopes of going any further in the competition. The cats led by four at the break and were well in control until Waterford scored a goal through Shane Walsh. Behind by 1-11 to 0-12,Kilkenny had to dig deep but proved well up to the task.
TJ Reid hit a goal on 55 minutes that brought the home side right back into it and from there to the finish they always held the upper hand. Ahead by three with time up, Colin Fennelly found the net to give his side an even greater margin of victory.
Apart from a defeat to Galway, Kilkenny have been solid if not spectacular all season and if they succeed in reaching the final they could be set for a rematch with the Tribesmen, who beat Dublin in Parnell Park.
