Offaly v Wexford, 2.30 Tullamore, Sunday
Offaly host Wexford in a bottom of the table relegation clash at Tullamore on Sunday afternoon. It is a game that neither side can afford to lose and for that very reason alone, should be a intriguing battle.
Both counties are pointless from their four outings in the competition to date and the only certainly is that one or both, will have registered their first points of the campaign come Sunday evening.
Offaly have been the whipping boys of the division, losing all of their matches by large margins, whereas Wexford have shown glimpses of ability in their four starts to date. Although they were hammered by Galway, they came back in the next round and really put it up to neighbours Kilkenny, before eventually losing out by 2-16 to 0-17.
The Faithful County have to win on Sunday, as they face Waterford and Kilkenny in their final two games of the league. Both sides are still in with a realistic chance of making the final, so will not spare Joe Dooley’s win. However, Wexford play Cork and Tipperary, so are safe in mid table and have less to play for. If Colm Bonnar’s men show the traditional Wexford fighting spirit they just might have enough to take something from these two games.
Before all of that however, the sides have to face each other this weekend. At this moment in time the visitors may just have a little more ability than their hosts and are taken to pick up their first points of the campaign.
