Referee blacklisted by GAA

The name of Westmeath referee, Pat Fox, remains missing from the list of officials due to oversee this weekend’s National Football League matches.

Fox has not been called on to officiate at any game since the second round of the competition on the weekend of February 20/21 when he refereed the Donegal and Tyrone clash at Healy Park in Omagh. In that game, Tyrone’s Ryan McMenamin was given a yellow card after clashing with Donegal defender, Paddy McGrath. At the time, most in attendance felt that Fox made the incorrect decision and that the Tyrone man should have been sent off.

The GAA’S CCCC later reviewed the incident and asked Fox if he wished to upgrade his punishment but he refused, standing over his original decision. The referee has played no further part in the competition and eyebrows have now been raised as he misses out on his fourth successive round this weekend.

It has been suggested that Fox may be blacklisted by the GAA over his refusal to change his views on the McMenamin decision and the evidence of this continues to grow as each round of the league passes.
